GEORGETOWN, TX – The Austin College Women's Tennis Team opened play in the SCAC Conference Tournament with a 5-0 loss to the Colorado College Tigers, but the score was not reflective of what was a competitive match.
AC got out to a slow start in doubles against the Tigers on courts 2 and 3. Magan Green/Kate Willis fell behind 3-0 and Carlye Lide/Kate Barber were behind 5-0 to start the match. Both teams were able to level the score, but were not able to close critical points, and the Tigers swept the 'Roos going into doubles play.
Singles play was tight all the way down the stretch, but only needing 2-matches to clinch, Colorado College got the points they needed to seal a decision. Kate Willis fell 1 and 1 in her first conference singles loss, and Meghan White battled hard in the second set against a tough opponent, but fell 6-1, 6-4 when all was said and done.
Carlye Lide was tied 3-3 at Line 5, Magan Green was up 2-1 at Line 6, Grace Ortiz fell 7-5 in her first set on court 3, and Anamariia Kheveli had just won a tiebreaker for the first set and was up 2-1 in the second when the match concluded.
Austin College will compete for the right to earn 5th place vs. Centenary tomorrow at 9am. The match will be held at Georgetown High School.
