GEORGETOWN, TX – After weeks of rainouts, the Austin College Kangaroo Women's Tennis Team got back out on the courts and competed in spirited fashion.
In the first match of their road trip to the Austin, TX area, the 'Roos got out to a slow start in doubles with the Pirates sweeping AC 3-0. Singles would be a completely different story.
Austin College came out with a renewed vigor and took the first set on 2 of the first 4 singles lines. Kate Willis came out of the gates fast with her big forehand/devastating serve combo and never looked back, taking a 6-3, 6-3 victory at Line 2 over Southwestern.
Meanwhile, Grace Ortiz fought back from 2-5 down in the second set to get the first dual match victory in her career at 3rd singles 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
The match of the day, however, goes to Junior Captain Meghan White for her gutsy 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-3 victory over Swets from Southwestern at first singles. Determination was the fuel that drove her engine as a near 4-hour match ended in a 3-3 singles split between the Pirates and the 'Roos.
Austin College falls to 0-2 (0-1) on the year, and travels to Belton, TX later today to face the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
