Five From 'Roo Swimming Earn Academic All-District
SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College men's swimmer Jonah Cowles and women's swimmers Lola Barcus-Schafer, Gracey Kettler, Cassidee Levine, and Izzy Schultze have been selected as College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honorees, the organization has announced.
SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College men's swimmer Jonah Cowles and women's swimmers Lola Barcus-Schafer, Gracey Kettler, Cassidee Levine, and Izzy Schultze have been selected as College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honorees, the organization has announced.
Cowles, a sophomore from Sherman, earned his Academic All-District recognition on the strength of a 3.67 grade-point-average with a major in computer science. Among the events he's competed in at Austin College are the 50 freestyle, as well as the 400 medley relay, 200 free relay, and 800 free relay.
Barcus-Schafer, a junior from Tulsa, Okla., was named Academic All-District with a 3.75 grade-point-average as a dual major in communications and media studies, and has competed for the 'Roos in numerous events including the 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 free relay, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, and 800 free relay.
Kettler, a sophomore from Alvin, was named Academic All-District thanks to a 3.72 grade-point-average with a major in environmental science. Kettler, who also plays for the 'Roo women's water polo team, has competed for the 'Roos in the 50 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 400 medley relay, and 800 free relay, among other events.
Levine, a senior from Richmond, earned Academic All-District accolades with a grade-point-average of 3.82 as a psychology major, and has competed in events such as the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 200 breaststroke, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 200 free relay, and 400 free relay.
Schultze, a sophomore from Round Rock, was named Academic All-Distict thanks to a 3.85 grade-point-average with a major in biology, and her events have included the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 200 free relay, 800 free relay, 200 medley relay, and 400 medley relay.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Divisions II and III Academic All-America programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America program is partially financially supported through the NAIA governance structure.
