Arizmendi's Bronze Highlights Day Three of SCAC Meet
GARLAND, Texas - The Austin College women's swim team held strong in fourth place and the men stayed put in fifth on day three of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Friday evening, with 'Roo women's swimmer capturing the team's first top three finish with a bronze in the 100 backstroke at the Garland ISD Natatorium.
GARLAND, Texas - The Austin College women's swim team held strong in fourth place and the men stayed put in fifth on day three of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Friday evening, with 'Roo women's swimmer capturing the team's first top three finish with a bronze in the 100 backstroke at the Garland ISD Natatorium.
Arizmendi touched the wall with a time of 1:00.19 to earn those third place points, while on the men's side, Preston Fiala and Kamil Murugan took 11th and 12th place with times of 54.73 and 55.65, respectively, in that event.
The 'Roo women's 200 freestyle relay team of Lola Barcus-Schafer, Arizmendi, Sofia Guzman, and Lexy Hulse opened up the scoring on Friday night with a fourth place finish, coming in with a time of 1:44.35, while the men's quartet of Murugan, Colin Stewart, Preston Fiala, and Alex Lai earned fifth place points with a time of 1:28.54 in that event.
Izzy Schultze earned the 'Roo women 15th place points in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall with a time of 1:07.37, while on the men's side, Lai placed 14th with a time of 53.49. Arizmendi came in 13th in the 400 individual medley, clocking a time of 5:10.48, and Colin Stewart finished seventh in that event on the men's side, coming in with a time of 4:19.71. Earlier in the day, Stewart set a new program record with a time of 4:16.25 in that event in Friday morning's prelims.
Hulse found her way to the podium with an eighth place finish in the women's 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.61, and Schultze and Reese Richmond added 10th and 11th place points with times of 1:06.52 and 1:09.39. Theo Rogers and Lai took ninth and 10th, respectively, in that event on the men's side with times of 59.54 and 1:00.97.
