'Roos Swim Well to Open 2022-23 Campaign

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's swim teams turned in solid performances as they opened the season against the University of Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday in Hannah Natatorium. The men were outscored 219-51, while the women fell 187-71 by their NCAA Division II opponent.

On the men's side, Jonas Eaton turned in a time of 23.16 in the 50 freestyle to take third in the event, while Sean Cookson was fourth with a 23.52. The women got a fourth place finish from Jordan Armstrong, who came in with a time of 29.38 in the event.

Liberty Chanin got her senior campaign off to a strong start, placing first in the women's 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08.19, and Sammi Thiele added a first place win in the 100 breaststroke, touching with a time of 1:09.72. 

The 'Roo men got a first place finish in the 50 butterfly, as Jayden Crews came in with a time of 24.90, and Alex Lai had a third place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:09.72. For the women, Chanin had a second place finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:56.68, while Thiele finished first in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 32.28. Abby Fuscone contributed points for the women in the 1-meter diving event, finishing with a score of 159.60.
