Records Fall for 'Roos on Day 1 of SCAC Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's swimming and diving teams got off to a strong start at the 2019 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Meet on Wednesday evening, with both teams breaking program records during the first two events of the meet.

The women's 200 medley relay team of Chloe Hunt, Lexi Wong, Sophie Garriga, and Brooke Le kicked things off with a fourth place finish, coming in with a time of 1:51.46. That's more than four seconds faster than the previous program mark, set in 2001. The women also saw a 21-year-old record fall in the 800 freestyle relay, with the team of Hunt, Claudia Theriot, Jade Kemp, and Garriga finishing with a time of 8:18.85. That's 10 seconds faster than the previous mark, and was good for fourth place at the meet.

On the men's side, the 'Roos got a fourth place finish in the 200 medley relay from the team of Chris Brown, Tyler Brown, Max Saenz, and Colton Baker, who came in with a time of 1:37.28, besting the previous program record in the event. Brown, Charles Smith, Jason Chen, and Saenz added a fifth place finish in the 800 free relay later in the evening. Both the men and women are currently in fourth place at the championship after the first day of events.
