'Roos Come Up Short Against Trinity
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team had several chances down the stretch to equalize against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference-leading Trinity University on Sunday, but the 'Roos came up short in a 2-1 defeat. The 'Roos are now 9-3-2 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team had several chances down the stretch to equalize against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference-leading Trinity University on Sunday, but the 'Roos came up short in a 2-1 defeat. The 'Roos are now 9-3-2 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
It was a defensive battle throughout much of the first half, but Trinity broke through with a goal from Madisyn Barganski off of an assist from Michaela Bosco in the 25th minute to make it a 1-0 game. However, the 'Roos countered just under eight minutes later, with Sarae Perez punching in a goal off of a corner kick by Jetta Broquard to even things, and that's how things would standing as the teams headed into the break. The goal by Perez was the first surrendered in conference play by the Tigers so far this season.
The Tigers went on top in the 54th minute, with Bri Werner finding Clara Richards for a goal from the top of the box to make it a 2-1 game. Austin College went on the offensive down the stretch and had multiple chances in the game's closing minutes, but Trinity was up to the task and knocked away two headers from point blank range to keep the 'Roos from finding the equalizer. Trinity finished the game with an 18-to-8 shot advantage, including 8-to-3 in shots on goal. Kenedie Lane made six saves for Austin College, and Lauryn Lewis made a pair of stops for Trinity.
Next up for Austin College is a trip to Austin, where they'll take on Concordia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday in another SCAC tilt.
