LONGVIEW, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team continued the program's best start in a decade on Friday evening, topping LeTourneau 2-1 to improve to 3-0-1. That's the best four-game start to a season since the 'Roos were 4-0 to open the 2014 campaign.
Austin College took the lead midway through the first half when Jetta Broquard tallied her second goal of the season at the 29:42 mark, and the 'Roos remained ahead 1-0 for the remainder of the opening 45 minutes. LeTourneau out-shot the 'Roos 7-to-4 in the first half, but the Austin College defense and goalkeeper Kenedie Lane managed to keep the Yellowjackets at bay. LeTourneau evened the score in the 63rd minute, as Chanel Kemball-Cook found the back of the net, but just under seven minutes later, the 'Roos got what would prove to be the game-winner from Shakira Williams. Hannah Oberbeck assisted on the goal by Williams, who scored for the second time in as many games.
The 'Roos managed to shut the Jackets down over the final 20 minutes to secure the win, with Lane making a pair of saves as LeTourneau out-shot Austin College 11-to-10 in the match. Kelauna Cruz had four stops for the Jackets. Austin College is back home on Sunday, as they play host to Millsaps at noon.
