SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team held visiting Schreiner University at bay for most of Sunday afternoon's match, but the Mountaineers tallied late to hand the 'Roos a 1-0 defeat at the Dr. Jack Pierce Memorial Soccer Complex.

The game was scoreless for nearly 86 minutes, but Schreiner's Ashley Esparza lined up for a free kick from 25 yards out and managed to deflect it from the underside of the crossbar and across the goal line to give the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead at the 85:29 mark. Austin College had multiple chances as time wound down, with Brittany Hutton putting an attempt on target and Sarah Davis nearly breaking through for a late goal, but Schreiner's defense was up to the task each time and was able to keep the 'Roos off the scoreboard.

Schreiner ended up holding a 31-to-3 advantage in shot attempts, with Austin College keeper Kenedie Lane making nine stops in the loss. Schreiner's Audrey Rivera made a save on Austin College's lone shot on goal in the defeat.
