GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team fell in a defensive battle at Southwestern University on Saturday in the opening round of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, with the Pirates topping the 'Roos 1-0. The 'Roos finish the year with a record of 1-6-1.

The Pirates controlled possession for the majority of the game, owning a 19-to-4 shot advantage and an 8-to-0 edge in corner kicks, but the Austin College defense held strong and Meredith Harris stopped 10 shots while tending the goal. However, Southwestern managed to find the back of the net at the 33:12 mark on an unassisted goal by Sam Davis, and that would prove to be the difference. The 'Roos had three of their four shot attempts after halftime and evened up possession in the final 45 minutes, and also put three shots on goal in the game, but were unable to find the equalizer.

Saturday's match was the first SCAC Tournament appearance for the Austin College women since the 2017 campaign.
