Women's Soccer Tops Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team kept its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament hopes alive on Friday evening with a 1-0 victory at Schreiner, bringing the team's overall record to 4-12-1 with a 1-5 mark in conference play.

The 'Roos now head to San Antonio to face Trinity in the last scheduled game of the season, though the chance remains that the 'Roos will make up their previously postponed game with St. Thomas on Tuesday in Sherman in order to determine the final spot in the conference tournament. Currently, the 'Roos and Schreiner both currently have one conference victory as they battle for the final spot in the postseason. While Austin College takes on conference-leading Trinity on Sunday, the Mountaineers will face the University of Dallas (5-2 in SCAC play).

On Friday evening the 'Roos and Mountaineers engaged in a defensive struggle, with Austin College managing just four shots while Schreiner had just nine attempts. The 'Roos put three shots on goal to just two for Schreiner, but it was Austin College who made their attempts on frame count as Sarah Carmichael scored her team-best sixth goal of the season in the 27th minute of action. That would be all the cushion the 'Roos and goalkeeper Meredith Harris would need, with Harris making two stops to earn the clean sheet.
