Second Half Comeback Lifts 'Roos Past SAGU

Second Half Comeback Lifts 'Roos Past SAGU

SHERMAN, Texas - After trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Austin College women's soccer team scored two unanswered goals in the second half to earn a 2-1 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Thursday evening. The 'Roos are now 3-10-1 overall on the year.

Southwestern Assemblies got on the board early, with Natalia Torres playing a ball from the endline into the box to Natalie Soloria, who chipped it into the upper left of the net in the 7th minute of action to make it 1-0. That would remain the score heading into halftime, with the 'Roos controlling much of the opening half and holding a 5-to-2 edge in shot attempts in the opening period.

It didn't take long for Austin College to equalize coming out of the break, as Shelby Smith found Sarah Carmichael down the left side of the field and Carmichael was able to put one into the net at the 48:03 mark. Smith would get a goal of her own 15 minutes later, punching one in off of a corner kick by Mack Bolen to make it a 2-1 game. SAGU got several chances down the stretch and held a 12-to-3 edge in shots in the second half, but a late effort from point blank went wide left and Meredith Harris made seven saves in the game, including six in the second half, to secure the win.

The 'Roos are back in action on Sunday when they host Johnson & Wales University at noon in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup.
