Southwestern Edges Austin College Women

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College women's soccer team battled throughout against Southwestern University, but the 'Roos could not quite overcome the Pirates in a 1-0 loss on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 3-9-1 overall and 1-6-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The 'Roos dominated the action early on against the Pirates, holding high-scoring Southwestern without a shot attempt for the first 15 minutes of the match. However, the Pirates would break through in the 26th minute of action when Malorie Lara's cross found Megan McGrath, who scored from 18 yards out to make it a 1-0 game heading into halftime.

Both teams came alive offensively in the second half but neither managed to find the net, with Southwestern firing 12 of their 16 shots after halftime while the 'Roos took nine shots in the second period. Each team had opportunities, including a last minute header by Southwestern that was turned away with a diving save by Laura McGee to keep it a one goal deficit.

The 'Roos would get five shots in the final 10 minutes but were unable to find the equalizer. McGee finished with five saves for Austin College as each team attempted 16 shots in the game.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
