'Roo Women's Soccer Drops SCAC Opener

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College women's soccer team fell 2-1 to visiting Centenary College on Friday in the opening Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match for each team. The 'Roos are now 0-3 overall this year and 0-1 in SCAC play.

Austin College dominated the action through most of the game, firing 25 shots against 15 for the Ladies, but Centenary would strike first on a goal by Connor Harwood in the 13th minute of action. That would be the only score of the first half, as the Ladies went into halftime holding a 1-0 edge on the 'Roos.

In the second half, Erin Eckart found Ashley Rice for a game-tying score in the 49th minute but Centenary quickly grabbed back the momentum, scoring in the 53rd minute with Serena Gallegos putting the game-winner into the back of the net on an assist from Olivia Jackson.

Laura Mcgee made four saves for Austin College, while Erica Coker had 10 stops for Centenary. Austin College will be looking to bounce back on Sunday when they take on out-of-conference opponent McMurry University at home.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
