'Roos Edge Centenary to Clinch SCAC Berth

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College women's soccer tallied early in the second half and goalkeeper Laura McGee got the shutout as the 'Roos won 1-0 over visiting Centenary College on Thursday. With the win, the 'Roos clinch the sixth and final spot in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament next weekend.

Centenary came out strong with the first five shots of the game but the 'Roos started to take control midway through the opening half, as Austin College was on the brink of finding the net for much of the final 20 minutes before halftime. The 'Roos finally broke through when Erin Eckart played a through ball to Myranda Baumgartner, who held off a defender and beat Centenary keeper Erica Coker low to make it 1-0 in the 53rd minute.

That would be the only score the 'Roos would need as McGee stopped all eight shots she faced, and Austin College held a 23-14 edge in the shot department in the victory. Austin College closes out the regular season on Sunday when they host the University of Dallas at 12:00 p.m. for Senior Day.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
