Late Penalty Kick Drops 'Roo Women's Soccer

After holding Texas Lutheran at bay for most of the game, the Austin College women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Bulldogs on a 77th minute penalty kick on Friday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 5-5 overall and 1-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Austin College held a shot advantage throughout the game, firing 10 shots compared to seven for TLU in the first half and owning an 18-12 edge for the game, but Austin College was unable to put many shots on net, with just four shots on goal in the game. Franchesca Lozoya made four saves in the game, but when Texas Lutheran was awarded a penalty kick at the 76:10 mark, Sioned Kirkpatrick put the ball in the back of the net to put the Bulldogs on top.

TLU drew another penalty kick less than 30 seconds later and was threatening to take full control, but this time Lozoya saved Kirkpatrick's attempt to keep it a one goal game. However, Austin College was unable to equalize in the game's final moments.

Austin College will be looking to get back in the win column on Sunday when they host Schreiner University at 2:00 p.m.
