The Austin College women's soccer team saw its Senior Day spoiled as the 'Roos fell 2-0 to the visiting University of California-Santa Cruz on Saturday, dropping the 'Roos to 6-12-1 to finish the regular season. The 'Roos head into next week's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament as the number four seed.
Santa Cruz got on the scoreboard in the 15th minute of action when Sara Sadler scored on an assist from Justine Dougherty, and the score remained 1-0 heading into halftime. The Banana Slugs added another goal in the 71st minute, when Sadler found Megan Carey for a tally to make it 2-0 and the 'Roos were unable to generate any offense to cut into the UCSC lead.
The Banana Slugs out-shot the 'Roos 20-6 in the game, including a 14-1 edge in the first half. Emily Brockette made three saves for the 'Roos and Gabby Trujilo had a pair of saves for UCSC.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
