'Roos Fall at Home to Schreiner
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team dropped a 73-66 home contest against visiting Schreiner University on Friday, as the Mountaineers used a big second quarter to surge ahead and held on down the stretch. Austin College is now 7-6 overall and 3-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Austin College held a narrow 19-17 lead after the first quarter, but Schreiner got hot in the second quarter, shooting 60% from the field and knocking down 3-of-4 three pointers to outscore the 'Roos 22-12, giving the Mountaineers a 39-31 halftime lead. Schreiner scored the first bucket of the second half to go on top 41-31, but a 13-3 run by Austin College evened things at 44 apiece with 4:49 left in the third quarter.
The Mountaineers responded with a quick 5-0 run to push the margin back to 49-44, and the score would stand at 55-51 heading into the fourth. Grace Moothart's three pointer evened things up at 56 all a minute into the frame, and after Schreiner answered with a trey, Maya Dodson responded with a triple of her own to make it 59-59. Moothart knocked down another three to give the 'Roos the lead at 62-59 with 6:57 remaining, but a 9-0 run by Schreiner gave the Mountaineers the lead for good.
Kaylee Smith and Moothart each scored 12 to lead the 'Roos, with Moothart hitting 4-of-6 from long distance, and Avory Miller and Lexi Martin each chipped in 11 points while Brooklyn Matthews had eight rebounds and four blocked shots. Miller led Austin College with four assists. Schreiner got most of its point production from its bench, wih Skye Thomas, JayDee Zamora, and Lynnashia Brooks each scoring 13 points, as the Mountaineers had a 48-24 advantage in bench points.
