'Roo Women Cruise Past Centenary for Conference Victory
SHREVEPORT, La. - The Austin College women's basketball team dominated throughout in a midweek road game at Centenary College, as the 'Roos topped the Ladies 75-48 to improve to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
SHREVEPORT, La. - The Austin College women's basketball team dominated throughout in a midweek road game at Centenary College, as the 'Roos topped the Ladies 75-48 to improve to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
The 'Roos sprinted out to a 23-11 lead after the opening quarter and extended the lead to 41-20 at halftime before coasting to the blowout victory in the second half. Austin College was on fire early, hitting better than 57% from the field in the first quarter and 54% in the second, finishing the game making 49.2% from the field as a team and 42.1% from beyond the arc. The 'Roos limited Centenary to just 29.2% shooting and forced 22 turnovers, which they converted into 26 points, and outscored the Ladies 36-24 in the paint.
Lexi Martin led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points, as 11 different players got into the scoring column for the 'Roos. Martin hit 5-of-9 shots overall and 4-of-6 from long range, adding five steals in the win. Taiyla Williams came off the bench to chip in 12 points on 4-of-4 shooting, adding a 4-of-5 performance at the free throw line, and Brooklyn Matthews scored eight points while pulling down 13 rebounds. Emma Potts chipped in six points and six boards, and Avery Rague had a team-high four assists. Nevaeh Rivera led all scorers with 16 points for Centenary.
Austin College is back home this weekend when they host Schreiner University on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Trinity University on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in Hughey Gym.
