Women's Hoops Opens 2025 with Dominant Win
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team got off to a slow start offensively, but the 'Roos turned it on over the final three quarters on their way to a 67-43 victory over the visiting University of Dallas on Saturday afternoon in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 6-4 on the year and 2-0 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Neither team scored until nearly midway through the first quarter, when Lexi Martin got the 'Roos on the board with a bucket at the 5:08 mark, and the Crusaders got their first points two minutes later. Austin College got a basket by Kaylee Smith just before the end of the quarter to make it 8-4, and the 'Roos poured in 23 second quarter points to take control and secure as 31-12 lead at halftime. Grace Moothart and Trinity Williams each knocked down a pair of threes in the frame, and Smith added six points to help send Austin College into the locker room with a big lead.
Austin College continued to roll into the third, scoring another 20 points to make it 51-26 heading into the final frame, and they'd cruise from there. Brooklyn Matthews, Avory Miller, and Anna Duvall each put four points on the scoreboard in the period, while Adriana Medina tried to keep the Crusaders in it with a 3-for-5 shooting performance from long range. The margin never got below 20 points the rest of the way, and Austin College finished with 11 different players reaching the scoring column and Moothart, Williams, and Smith leading the balanced attack with nine points each, while Matthews added eight points and eight rebounds. Smith added five boards, and Moothart dished out five assists.
The 'Roos hounded Dallas into 27 turnovers, with Austin College coming away with 18 steals led by five from Miller, who also had three blocked shots and five boards. Medina led all scorers with 11 points, with nine of those coming in her big third quarter performance.
