Brooklyn Matthews made 10-of-11 shots to finish with a game-high 20 points, adding five rebounds and three steals, and Grace Moothart hit 3-of-5 from long range on her way to 13 points while adding four assists and three steals, while Avory Miller chipped in 11 points and six rebounds. The 'Roos held a slim 18-16 lead after the opening quarter and pushed the margin to 36-21 midway through the second, but the Crusaders managed to cut it to 42-31 at halftime.
The lead was down to five early in the third before the 'Roos pushed it back to double digits at 50-40 on a three from Trinity Williams, but Dallas managed to trim it to a 52-47 game heading into the fourth. Dallas drew to within one at 63-63 with just over three minutes to play, but Austin College closed strong, and Lexi Martin's three pointer with 39 seconds left made it 68-63. Martin and Maya Dodson combined to go 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the closing seconds to make it a 72-63 final.
The 'Roos shot 50.9% from the field, but made just 5-of-18 threes and 11-of-18 from the free throw line. Dallas made 39% from the field and 7-of-19 threes, with Adryan Alvarez led the Crusaders with 16 points while Alyssa Sullivan chipped in 15. Austin College and Dallas will square off again on Saturday, this time in Hughey Gym with tip-time set for 12:00 p.m.
