Austin College Women Fall to TLU

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team struggled to get the ball in the basket all night against visiting Texas Lutheran University, shooting just 19.6% as a team in a 56-31 defeat on Friday evening in Hughey Gym.

The Bulldogs led 17-10 after the opening quarter but Austin College scored just two points in the second, hitting 1-of-15 shots in the period. After Lauren Traylor scored with 7:49 left before halftime, the 'Roos went the rest of the way scoreless aound found themselves trailing 31-12 at halftime. The scoring drought carried over into the third quarter, with Austin College going more than five minutes without a point before Avory Miller knocked down a free throw, and follow that up with a bucket to make it a 44-15 game. Trinity Williams added a basket and Avery Sweeney hit a pair of free throws as the 'Roos went into the fourth trailing 46-19.

Austin College outscored the Bulldogs 12-10 in the fourth to make it a 56-31 final with Sweeney leading Austin College in scoring with seven points, adding three rebounds. The 'Roos hit 4-of-18 threes and struggled from the free throw line as well, making just 5-of-11 attempts. Lauren Sansano led all scorers with 11 points for the Bulldogs, who shot 46.4% from the field. Austin College will look to bounce back on Saturday, as they host Southwestern University at 6:00 p.m.
