'Roos Unable to Overcome Cold Start Against Trinity

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team struggled to get things going offensively in the first half against visiting Trinity University, mustering just 15 first half points before ultimately falling 69-59 to the Tigers on Friday evening in Hughey Gym.

The 'Roos found themselves trailing 35-15 at the break, as they knocked down just 6-of-30 field goal attempts in the first half compared to a 13-of-27 performance for the Tigers. Austin College started to click offensively after the break, pouring in 24 third quarter points, but the 'Roos still found themselves down 61-39 heading into the final frame. Austin College came out hot in the fourth, however, using an 11-0 run capped by a Grace Moothart three pointer to trim the margin to 61-50 with 8:10 left in the game.

Austin College managed to outscore the Tigers 20-8 in the final period, but the 'Roos were unable to get the deficit back to single digits in the game's final minutes as the teams traded baskets down the stretch. The 'Roos shot 54.5% from the field and hit 3-of-5 triples in the last period, but the Tigers did just enough to keep Austin College at bay. Trinity finished the game shooting 43.9% from the field and hit 10-of-25 three point attempts, while Austin College shot 32.2% as a team and made 6-of-20 triples. The 'Roos out-rebounded Trinity 42-38 and outscored the Tigers 15-9 from the free throw line in the game.

Amarys Cuellar scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Austin College, adding three assists, two steals, and a blocked shot. Avory Miller came off the bench to score nine points, while  Brooklyn Matthews had eight points and seven rebounds and Lexi Martin chipped in eight points in the loss. Josie Napoli led all scorers with 27 points for Trinity, hitting 5-of-10 from long range.
