GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team couldn't overcome a slow start in a road game against Southwestern University, falling 59-49 to the Pirates on Saturday evening.

The 'Roos struggled to get anything going offensively in the opening quarter, as Lauren Traylor got the scoring started with a three pointer 35 seconds into the game but that would be the lone field goal of the first period for Austin College. Southwestern grabbed a 16-4 lead after the opening frame, and the Pirates would lead 28-15 at halftime. In the second half, the 'Roos came roaring back in the third and pulled to within four at 33-29 on a basket by Traylor with three minutes left, but the Pirates closed the period with a 7-3 run to make it 40-32 heading into the fourth.

Austin College got the lead all the way down to one at 46-45 on a pair of free throws by Lexi Martin with 3:03 remaining, but five in a row for Southwestern pushed the deficit to 51-46 and the 'Roos were unable to close the gap down the stretch. Traylor was the lone Austin College player to hit double figures, finishing with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting while adding six rebounds and three steals. Amarys Cuellar chipped in nine points, and Martin finished with eight as Austin College was just 27.1% from the field as a team, and 4-of-21 from beyond the arc. Southwestern shot 41.7% as a team, and Aniyah Burke led all scorers with 25 points.
