TLU Uses Big Third Quarter to Pull Away From 'Roos

SEGUIN, Texas - Texas Lutheran outscored the Austin College women's basketball team 21-4 in the third quarter, on their way to handing the 'Roos a 69-46 defeat on Friday evening in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The 'Roos trailed just 17-15 after the opening quarter, but Texas Lutheran started to widen the gap in the second quarter and would head into the locker room leading 36-25. However, it was in the third quarter that the Bulldogs started to put the game away, scoring the first 15 points of the period to take a 50-25 lead before Austin College finally got on the scoreboard with a Raylee McDonald basket to make it 50-27 with 3:46 left. Texas Lutheran ended the quarter with a 57-29 lead, and the margin grew to 60-29 on a TLU three early in the fourth. 

The Bulldogs took their largest lead of the game at 65-32, and then again at 67-34 before Austin College closed the game with a 12-2 run to make it a 69-46 final. The 'Roos shot just 29.8% from the field and turned the ball over 26 times, compared to just nine giveaways by the Bulldogs, who also out-scored the 'Roos 17-11 from the free throw line. Grace Moothart hit 4-of-8 threes to lead Austin College with 12 points, and Lexi Martin Chipped in 10. Kailee Mulkey led all scorers with 13 points for TLU.
