JACKSON, Miss. - The Austin College women's basketball team raced out to a 15-0 lead midway through the first quarter, but Hendrix managed to chip away at the margin and used a big fourth quarter to hand the 'Roos a 71-66 defeat on Sunday on the campus of Millsaps College. The 'Roos are now 1-5 on the year.

The 'Roos finished the opening quarter with a 19-11 lead, but Hendrix outscored the 'Roos 20-18 in the second period to close the gap to 37-31 at the break. The Warriors kept chipping away at the deficit in the third, narrowing the margin to 52-48 heading into the final 10 minutes of action. The two teams traded baskets to open the fourth, but Hendrix grabbed its first lead of the game on a Simone Shields basket with 6:48 left to put the Warriors on top 56-54. A three point play by Lauren Traylor later in the quarter put the 'Roos back up 59-58, and after Hendrix scored to go back on top, Brooklyn Matthews scored to give Austin College a 61-60 edge with 2:10 left.

However, Hendrix would get consecutive three pointers to surge ahead 66-61, and the 'Roos were unable to get the margin under three points in the game's closing minutes. Traylor finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and three steals to lead the 'Roos and Grace Moothart hit 3-of-5 threes on her way to 11 points.
