Women's Hoops Falls at Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. - The Austin College women's basketball team got out to a hot start but went cold offensively in the final three quarters, falling 62-45 on Saturday afternoon at against 4-1 Millsaps College. The 'Roos are now 1-4 to open the season.

Austin College jumped out to a 17-12 lead after the opening quarter, but the 'Roos only mustered 10 points in the second and fourth periods and eight in the third as Millsaps surged ahead to take a 30-27 halftime lead. The Majors outscored Austin College 21-8 in the third to put the game away, as Austin College couldn't find the range in the defeat, hitting just 15-of-64 shots overall, including 5-of-35 from three point range.

Defensively, Austin College held Millsaps to 39.7% shooting but the Majors knocked down 9-of-26 triples to help put the 'Roos away over the game's final 30 minutes of action. Amarys Cuellar led the 'Roos with nine points and six rebounds and Lexi Martin chipped in nine points as well, while Lauren Traylor added six points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Megan O'Neil had six points off the bench, and Kaylee Smith had four points and four boards. Maddie Howell and Haley Franklin led all scorers with 12 points each for Millsaps.

Austin College will look to bounce back and get back into the win column on Sunday, when they take on Hendrix College with tip-time set for noon in Jackson.
