'Roo Women's Hoops Falls at Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team came up short in a road game at Schreiner University on Friday evening, dropping a 61-52 decision to the Mountaineers in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The 'Roos fell behind 15-11 after the opening quarter and found themselves trailing 32-21 at halftime, but a big third quarter cut it to a 47-40 game heading into the fourth quarter. Austin College battled back and cut it to 50-48 on a three by Sammi Guffey with 5:19 left to play, but five quick points from the Mountaineers extended the margin back to 55-48 and Austin College was unable to get the deficit under five points the rest of the way.

Sarah Putnicki had 14 points, nine rebounds, and five assists to lead the 'Roos and Grace Moothart hit three triples to finish with nine points. Sarah Gwin chipped in eight points and eight rebounds, and Naomi Anamekwe pulled down 13 boards to lead Austin College on the glass. Skye Thomas came off the bench to lead Schreiner with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting, adding eight rebounds in the game.
