Cold Start Dooms 'Roo Women's Hoops

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Austin College women's basketball team got off to a slow start offensively, and Colorado College took advantage of 20 offensive rebounds and a 53-30 rebounding edge overall to hand the 'Roos a 74-53 defeat on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 0-8 overall and 0-3 in SCAC play.

Austin College scored just 16 first half points, finding themselves trailing 19-9 after the opening quarter and 41-16 at halftime. The 'Roos outscored Colorado College in the second half, including 21-9 in the fourth quarter, but by then it was too late to mount a full comeback bid. The 'Roos shot 37.9% from the field as a team while the Tigers hit 44.1% of their shots, and Colorado College also held a 23-9 edge in second chance points.

Colorado College also outscored the 'Roos 38-24 in the paint, thanks largely to a 25 point, 14 rebound performance by Zoe Tomlinson. Austin College got 17 points from Sarah Gwin, who hit 8-of-16 shots and added four rebounds and three assists. The 'Roos got 23 bench points, including eight apiece from Kaylee Lewis and Brooklyn Matthews. Matthews hit 4-of-6 shots and added three rebounds. Sarah Putnicki added eight points, while Lauren Traylor grabbed a team-best eight rebounds in the loss.

Up next for the 'Roos is a road game at Millsaps on December 17, with tip time set for 1:00 p.m.
