'Roos Drop Road Game at Hardin-Simmons

ABILENE, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team got out to a slow start offensively and was unable to recover, falling at Hardin-Simmons 77-38 on Friday evening. The 'Roos are now 0-3 overall on the year.

Austin College scored just five points in the first quarter as they fell in an 18-5 hole, and found themselves trailing 44-11 at halftime. The 'Roos hit just 5-of-29 first half shot attempts, while HSU was 9-of-15 in the first quarter and 10-of-19 in the second. Austin College scored 18 third quarter points, hitting 40% from the field in that frame, but were only able to make 3-of-14 shots in the fourth as Hardin-Simmons finished the game outscoring the 'Roos in all four quarters.

The 'Roos ended up shooting 24.1% from the field, compared to 47.1% for Hardin-Simmons, and HSU owned a 49-34 rebounding edge in the game. Austin College also turned the ball over 23 times in the loss. Paulina Porter was the lone 'Roo to reach double figures in the scoring column, finishing with a career-best 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting and adding six rebounds and two steals. Naomi Anamekwe led the 'Roos with seven rebounds, and Marianna Bert handed out a team-best three assists. Natasha Blizzard led all scorers with 15 points for HSU.
