'Roo Women's Hoops Falls on Senior Day

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team was out-rebounded 58-23 and Colorado College also knocked down 10 three pointers, as the 'Roos fell 60-40 to the Tigers on Sunday afternoon in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 8-14 overall and 7-7 in SCAC play.

Colorado College built a 16-8 lead after the opening quarter, and the margin remained eight points at 24-16 heading into halftime as both teams struggled to get much going offensively in the second frame. However, the Tigers exploded for 23 points in the third to open things up, while Austin College made just 5-of-18 shots from the field in the period. Colorado College knocked down five threes in the third to build their lead to 47-26 heading into the fourth.

Austin College started to chip away at the Colorado College lead early in the fourth, scoring six in a row to open the frame to cut it to 47-32 but the Tigers pushed the lead to 60-38 with just under two minutes to play. Overall, the 'Roos shot just 27.9% from the field while the Tigers made 40.7% and had 20 bench points, compared to none for Austin College. The 'Roos forced the Tigers into 26 turnovers, but Colorado College had assists on 19 of their 24 made baskets.

Sarah Gwin scored 16 points to lead Austin College and Natalie McCoy added 12 as the only other 'Roo to reach double figures. Tedy Reed led Colorado College with 16, hitting 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, while Rosie Braley had a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds and Anna Fanelli dished out 11 assists.
