Hot-shooting Schreiner Tops 'Roo Women

KERRVILLE, Texas - Schreiner University hit 11-of-23 attempts from beyond the arc and Austin College was unable to keep pace, as the Mountaineers topped the 'Roo women 92-68 on Saturday in Kerrville. The 'Roos are now 6-12 overall and 5-5 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The two teams played evenly through two quarters, with Schreiner out-scoring the 'Roos 24-18 in the opening fame before Austin College won the second quarter 23-19, squaring things up at 41 apiece heading into halftime. However, the Mountaineers opened the third quarter with a 16-0 run and went into the fourth quarter leading 67-48 and Austin College was never able to recover. Austin College hit just 2-of-16 shot attempts in the third, with Schreiner dominating on the glass, pulling down 20 rebounds in that period.

Kacie West poured in 32 points to lead Austin College, hitting 8-of-14 three pointers and 12-of-24 shots overall and added six rebounds and three assists. Schreiner finished the game with a 53-35 edge on the boards and shot 45.7% from the field, compared to 36.1% for the 'Roos. Austin College also made just 7-of-15 free throws, while the Mountaineers knocked down 17-of-21 attempts from the line.

Naomi Anamekwe had 12 points for Austin College, while Lauren Traylor grabbed 10 rebounds and Natalie McCoy dished out seven assists. Four players reached double-figures for Schreiner, led by 17 from Josline Hernandez. Hernandez hit 5-of-9 from deep.
