Austin College Cruises Past Dallas

IRVING, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team picked up their first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win of the year on Sunday, coasting past the University of Dallas 79-51 in Irving. The 'Roos are now 2-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Austin College took control from the start, racing out to a 10-2 lead in the early minutes and pushing the margin to 22-5 before heading into quarter number two on top 22-7. The 'Roos used a 10-4 run to open the second frame, going on top 32-11 on a three-point play by Sarah Putnicki, and they would head into the locker room ahead 41-21. The lead grew to 54-30 on a triple from Kacie West midway through the third quarter, though the Crusaders trimmed it down to 60-40 heading into the fourth. 

Dallas cut the deficit to 60-47 a minute and a half into the final period, but Austin College limited them to just four points over the final 8:25 and got seven points from Sarah Gwin in the frame to pull away and make it a 79-51 final. Gwin finished with 17 points, knocking down 4-of-5 three pointers, and Putnicki recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds, hitting 7-of-14 shot attempts and adding three assists and three blocked shots. West finished with 11 points, and Natalie McCoy chipped in 10. 

The 'Roos shot 45.8% from the field, and made 8-of-14 triples in their best shooting performance of the season. Austin College also held a 42-30 advantage on the glass and made 17-of-21 free throw attempts.
