'Roo Women Fall to No. 2 ETBU

MARSHALL, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team battled through the first quarter at No. 2-ranked East Texas Baptist, but the Tigers outscored the 'Roos 35-16 over the second and third periods on their way to handing Austin College a 69-45 loss on Tuesday. The 'Roos are now 1-4 overall on the year.

The 'Roos trailed 20-15 after one quarter, but ETBU started to pull away in the second, using an 18-10 scoring advantage to head into halftime leading 38-25. Austin College struggled on the offensive end in the third, managing just six points in the quarter, as the Tigers put the game out of reach in the frame and went into the fourth leading 55-31. That margin would remain through the fourth, as Austin College played ETBU evenly in the final quarter of action.

Sarah Gwin and Sarah Putnicki each scored 12 points to lead Austin College, as the 'Roos shot just 26.4% from the field and 18.5% from the three point line. East Texas Baptist dominated on the glass, winning the battle on the boards 48-23, and the Tigers also shot 48.2% from the field. Much of that damage was done in the paint, where ETBU outscored Austin College 42-12. Taylor Singleton led East Texa Baptist with 19 points, seven rebounds, and six steals.

The 'Roos are off until December 11, when they play host to Howard Payne University.
