Austin College Falls at Trinity

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team fell behind by 12 points at halftime and was unable to recover against Trinity on Saturday, falling 79-61 to the Tigers in a road SCAC contest. The 'Roos are now 5-2 overall on the year.

Reagan Chiaverini matched her career-high with 22 points and added eight rebounds and five assists, but Austin College committed 20 turnovers, leading to 20 points for the Tigers. The 'Roos led 10-3 early in the game but Trinity closed the first quarter with a 15-0 run to head into the second frame on top 18-10. That run carried over into the second quarter, with Trinity scoring the first four points to make it a 19-0 run and take a 22-10 lead before Ally Longaker scored to snap the run and make it 22-12. 

Trinity took a 35-15 lead with 3:24 left in the opening half, but Austin College managed to use an 11-3 run to cut it to a 38-26 game at halftime. Austin College scored first to open the third quarter to make it a 38-28 game, but that's as close as things would get the rest of the way as the Tigers used another big run to make it 49-31 with 7:04 left in the third and the 'Roos were unable to get the deficit under 12 points the rest of the way.

Chiaverini made 7-of-15 field goals and 8-of-9 from the free throw line, and Lindsay Carter came off the bench to knock down 3-of-4 threes to score 11 points as the only other 'Roo to reach double figures. Ally Longaker scored eight points and grabbed six boards, and Kacie West added eight points to reach the 1,000-point career milestone.
