'Roos Pull Away for Road Win at HSU

ABILENE, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team used a big fourth quarter to pull away from Hardin-Simmons, earning a 62-48 road victory on Thursday. The 'Roos are now 6-1 overall on the year.

After coming off a 10-day break for finals, the 'Roos took awhile to shake off the rust with 23 turnovers in the game but came up big when it counted, breaking open a close contest with a fourth quarter in which they outscored the Cowgirls 16-5. The 'Roos seized momentum for good late in the third quarter, when Reagan Chiaverini buried a 25-footer with the shot clock expiring to send Austin College into the fourth leading 46-43.

From there, the 'Roos clamped down defensively and made 12-of-14 free throws down the stretch, including 6-of-6 from Kacie West and 4-of-4 from Ann Savage. Bryce Frank pulled down seven of her game-high 14 rebounds in the fourth quarter on the way to her fifth double-double on the year. Savage led the 'Roos offensively with 12 points, adding five assists and five rebounds, and Frank had 10 points to go along with her big game on the glass.

West and Chiaverini each chipped in 11 points off the bench, with West doing most of her damage from the free throw line, where she sank 9-of-10. She also came up with a big driving bucket late in the game to help seal the win. Chiaverini hit 4-of-7 from the field, including both of her three point attempts, and pulled down six rebounds. Addison Walling added nine points and seven boards in the win.

Austin College is back at home on Saturday when they host Hendrix College with tip-time set for 4:00 p.m. in Hughey Gym.
