'Roos Use Strong Defense to Earn First SCAC Win

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Austin College women's basketball team harassed Centenary into 32 turnovers and Meghan Lewis came up just shy of tying the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference single-game record for steals, coming away with 10 in a 63-50 victory over the Ladies. The 'Roos are now 8-4 overall and 1-0 in the SCAC, and have run their win-streak to six games.

Austin College came away with 24 steals as a team, with Ann Savage adding four and Addison Walling getting three of her own. For Lewis, the 10 steals tie her for second most in a game in SCAC history and mark a career-high. Bryce Frank added her third straight double-double, scoring 19 points and adding 12 points and four assists as Austin College overcame poor shooting to handle the Ladies.

The 'Roos shot just 32.9% from the field and made only 4-of-16 threes in the game, while also getting out-rebounded 52-36 by Centenary. However, Austin College turned the ball over just 13 times and out-scored Centenary 30-7 off of turnovers. The 'Roos also used a 23-4 advantage in fast break points, and never trailed in the game. 

Austin College led 20-12 after the first quarter and pushed the first half margin to 28-14 before Centenary ended the second quarter with a 12-2 run to make it 30-26 at the break. However, Austin College used a 24-point third quarter to put the game away. Frank hit 8-of-16 shots to get to 19 points, with five of her 12 rebounds coming on the offensive glass. Savage added 14 points, and Kacie West came off the bench to score 11.

Brie Frierson scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to pace Centenary.
