'Roos Cruise Past Pomona-Pitzer

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Austin College women's basketball team got out to a big lead early and never looked back, topping Pomona-Pitzer 71-48 in their first game at the McWilliams Invitational hosted by Washington University in St. Louis. The 'Roos are now 3-4 overall with the victory.

Bryce Frank led a balanced attack with 12 points, adding six rebounds and five assists as 13 different players got into the scoring column. Ann Savage joined Frank in double-digits with 10 points and added three assists and three steals, while Meghan Lewis led a strong defensive effort that forced Pomona-Pitzer into 21 turnovers, with Lewis coming away with five steals.

Austin College jumped out to an 8-0 lead behind threes from Savage and Addy Walling, and Kacie West hit two threes, Tiffany Litton added a triple, and Reagan Chiaverini connected from distance as the 'Roos took a 27-7 lead with 58 seconds left in the first quarter. Pomona-Pitzer would score six straight to make it 27-13 after one. The 'Roos would go into halftime with a 39-20 lead as Walling knocked down another triple to push the margin to 19 points.

The game remained firmly in Austin College's control the rest of the way, and the 'Roos were able to snap a three-game skid with the blowout victory. West came off the bench to score eight points, and Walling added eight points and five rebounds. Lewis and Caitlyn Collins each chipped in six points in the victory.

The 'Roos take on No. 13-ranked Washington University in their final game of the tournament on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
