Women's Hoops Cruises to 80-40 Win Over Dallas

The Austin College women's basketball team used a huge second quarter to pull away from the University of Dallas and won going away, topping the Crusaders 80-40 on Saturday afternoon. The 'Roos improve to 7-4 overall and 1-0 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the victory.

Chrissy Ray led a balanced scoring attack with 11 points, as 13 different 'Roos got into the action in Irving. In all, nine different players scored at least five points for Austin College as the 'Roos broke open what had been a tightly contested game after the first quarter. With the 'Roos leading 12-11 after one, Austin College exploded for 29 second quarter points while limiting Dallas to just five points to take a 41-16 lead into halftiime and never looked back.

Kali Vittallo buried three first half three pointers to lead the charge and finished with nine points in the game, and Katie Gowdy joined Ray in double digits with 10 points. Ray also pulled down nine rebounds to just miss out on a double-double, and also had a pair of blocked shots. The 'Roos held Dallas to just 22.9% shooting from the field while hounding the Crusaders into 24 turnovers.

Olivia Bailey scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds while dishing out three assists, and Kendall Heitmeier chipped in eight points and three rebounds for the 'Roos in the victory. Kelly Lynch came off the bench to score a career-best nine points for the 'Roos on 4-of-6 shooting.
