Kime's Triple Double Leads 'Roos Past Trinity

Kime's Triple Double Leads 'Roos Past Trinity

Christina Kime notched a triple-double with 23 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds and the Austin College women's basketball team got a career-high 19 points from Allison Taylor to close out the season on a high note as the 'Roos topped Trinity 78-68 on Saturday in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos finish the year having won three of their final four games for an overall record of 4-21 and a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference mark of 4-12.

The 'Roos and Tigers went back and forth early until a three pointer from Lauren Splawn and a basket from Jana Tucker put Trinity up 15-9 with 10:29 left in the first half, and after back to back threes from Angeleena Young squared things at 15 the Tigers scored the next five to take a 20-15 lead with 8:28 on the clock. Kime knocked down a three and Allie Collyer scored to tie things up again, and after the Tigers grabbed the lead back at 22-20, Austin College got threes from Young, Kime and Kersti Marusich as part of a 13-0 run to close out the half and take a 33-22 lead into the break.

Austin College continued its hot shooting in the second half, outscoring the Tigers 10-2 over the first two minutes out of the break to take a commanding 43-24 lead. The lead grew to 20 on a basket by Kime to make it 52-32 with 14:29 left, but Trinity slowly started to chip away and got the margin down to 54-42 with 10:40 left to play.

The Tigers closed the gap to nine at 64-55 with 5:20 remaining, but four straight free throws from Kime and a basket by Taylor pushed it back to a 72-57 game with under four minutes remaining. Jana Tucker's three and a free throw by Victoria Perko helped the Tigers cut it to a 74-66 game with 48 seconds to play but Kime would go 4-for-4 from the free throw line to ice the game and give the 'Roos the 10 point victory.

Kime hit 5-of-11 shots from the field and 11-of-12 from the free throw line on her way to a triple double, and Taylor knocked down 8-of-10 shots from the field and added seven boards to go along with her 19 points. Marusich added 16 points and four assists and Young hit four threes on her way to 14 points.

Hannah Coley led all scorers with 29 points and added seven rebounds and was the only Trinity player to reach double figures in the scoring column. Trinity held a 43-35 rebounding edge, including 24 offensive boards, but shot just 36% and turned it over 17 times in the game.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
