SHREVEPORT, La. - The Austin College softball team earned a 9-7 victory in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series finale at Centenary College, bringing the 'Roos to 3-28 overall and 3-18 in conference play.
The 'Roos fell behind 2-0 in the first inning after a two-run homer by Viviana Rivero, and that remained the score until the top of the third when Austin College surged ahead behind a four run inning. Alexus Johnson got things started with a two-run single, and she and Emily Autrey would later come home on an error to make it 4-2. The margin grew to 5-2 in the top of the fourth when Johnson knocked in another run, but the Ladies got two runs back in the bottom half of the inning to trim it to a 5-4 game.
Reagan Brinkley and Ashlynn Brothers came home on an error in the sixth and Genesis Foreman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded later in the inning, bringing another run home to make it 8-4. Once again, Centenary cut it to a one-run game in the bottom half of the inning, but the 'Roos tacked on an insurance run on a sacrifice fly by Hailie Swiatkowski in the seventh and McKinley Hankins earned the save in the 9-7 win.
Johnson picked up the victory in the circle, giving up seven runs - only two earned - on eight hits in 5.1 innings of work. Emma Shepherd took the loss for the Ladies, while Johnson led Austin College with a 2-for-4 performance and three RBI and Brinkley went 2-for-3.
