Softball Drops Series Opener at Schreiner
KERRVILLE, Texas - The Austin College softball team fell 13-5 in the opening game of the team's three-game set at Schreiner University on Friday evening, as the Mountaineers used a big fourth inning to break open what had been a tightly played game.

The 'Roos got on the board first when Tori Fowler scored on a passed ball in the top of the first, but Schreiner answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to go on top 2-1. Another run came home in the third to put the Mountaineers ahead 3-1, but Schreiner erupted for eight runs in the fourth to make it 11-1 with multiple errors by the 'Roos playing a role in the big inning.
Austin College responded with four runs in the top of the fifth to trim it to 11-5, with Jadyn Myers scoring when Ashlynn Brothers drew a walk with the bases full, and Reagan Brinkley singled home a pair of runs. Chyrsi Hemby capped off the scoring with a single that brought Brothers across, but the Mountaineers added two runs in the bottom half of the inning to end the game via the run-rule.
Lauren Trott took the loss for Austin College, giving up eight runs on nine hits in 3.1 innings of work, while Fowler paced the 'Roos at the plate with 2-for-3 performance with two runs scored and a stolen base. Brinley Smith led Schreiner, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Austin College and the Mountaineers will wrap up the series on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
