Austin College Softball Drops Pair to Southwestern
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team fell in both halves of its twinbill against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Southwestern University on Saturday, as the 'Roos were edged 7-5 in game one and 8-4 in game two at Sherman High. The 'Roos are now 0-16 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team fell in both halves of its twinbill against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Southwestern University on Saturday, as the 'Roos were edged 7-5 in game one and 8-4 in game two at Sherman High. The 'Roos are now 0-16 overall and 0-6 in conference play.
The 'Roos took an early lead in game one when Chyrsi Hemby drove in Tori Fowler in the first inning, but the Pirates responded back with four runs in the second, with Calle Collier tripling home three runs and then coming home on an error. Reagan Brinkley tripled home a pair of runs and Hannah King brought home one more in the bottom of the third to cut tie things up, and Austin College took a 5-4 lead when Brinkley stole home in the fifth.
Daniella Clark evened the score with an RBI single in the sixth and Jodi Glenn-Millhouse brought Clark home to put the Pirates on top, and they'd tack on one more run in the inning to go on top 7-5 and that's how things would end. Alexus Johnson absorbed the loss for Austin College, surrendering seven runs, five earned, on eight hits in 5.2 innings of work and Brinkley went 3-for-3 to lead the 'Roos at the plate. Collier went 2-for-4 with four RBI to lead Southwestern, and Erica Otto was 3-for-4 in the game.
Austin College surged out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second in game two, with all four runs coming home in the frame to give the 'Roos a big early advantage. An error led to two runs coming home to start things off, and Faith Butler brought home another run with a sacrifice bunt while Brinkley drove in Fowler to make it 4-0. However, Southwestern quickly answered with a four run third, and the Pirates took the lead on an error in the fifth. Southwestern added three more runs in the sixth and Austin College was unable to answer making it an 8-4 final.
Brinkley took the loss for Austin College, giving up seven runs, four earned, on 15 hits in 5.0 innings of work, and she also paced the 'Roos at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance and an RBI. Otto and Glenn-Millhouse were both 4-for-5 to lead Southwestern.
