Defensive Miscues Doom 'Roo Softball
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team dropped game one of its three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series against Southwestern University on Friday evening at Sherman High, falling 9-1 to the Pirates as defensive miscues put the 'Roos in big hole early, and the 'Roos were unable to recover.
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team dropped game one of its three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series against Southwestern University on Friday evening at Sherman High, falling 9-1 to the Pirates as defensive miscues put the 'Roos in big hole early, and the 'Roos were unable to recover.
Errors opened the door for three unearned runs in the top of the first for the Pirates, and Southwestern tacked on two more runs in the second to make it a 5-0 game early. The Pirates put three more runs on the board in the fourth, with Riley Glenn-Millhouse getting things started with an RBI double, and she'd later comoe around to score to push it to an 8-0 game.
The margin grew to 9-0 in the top of the fifth as a throwing error brought home another run for the Pirates, and Austin College finally managed to get on the board in the bottom half of the inning on a solo homer from Hailie Swiatkowski, making it a 9-1 final as the game finished after five.
Lauren Trott took the loss for Austin College after surrendering eight runs, five earned, on nine hits in 3.2 innings of work, while Madison Vela went hte distance for Southwestern to get the win while scattering seven hits. Tori Fowler and Ashlynn Brothers each had a pair of hits for the 'Roos.
