SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team earned a run-rule victory over visiting La Roche University on Sunday, topping the Redhawks 8-0 after plating six runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win. The 'Roos are now 8-8 overall on the year.

After two scoreless innings to open the game, Chyrsi Hemby belted a two-run base hit to bring home Tori Fowler and Elizabeth Preston. That remained the score until the sixth, when Lyndsey Busch got the big inning started with a two-run double to make it 4-0, and the margin grew to 6-0 when Faith Butler brought home two more runs with a single. A La Roche error opened the door for the final two runs by Austin College, with Alexus Johnson and Butler coming around on a defensive miscue to make it 8-0 and end the game.

Hailie Swiatkowski went the distance for Austin College to earn the win, throwing a four-hit shutout. Hemby paced the 'Roos at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with two RBI, and Butler went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the win. Maura Wade got the loss for La Roche, surrendering five runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings of action. The 'Roos and Redhawks will wrap up their series with a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Monday.
