Austin College Softball Sweeps Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Austin College softball team capped off its road trip to Tennessee with a sweep of Sewanee on Tuesday morning, topping the Tigers 3-1 in game one and 9-7 in game two. The 'Roos are now 7-5 overall on the season.

Chyrsi Hemby put the 'Roos on the board in the top of the first, driving in Tori Fowler to make it 1-0, and that's how things would stand until Sewanee got a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth to even things up. Hailie Swiatkowski scored on an error in the fifth to put Austin College back on top, and Hemby notched her second RBI of the day later in the inning, bringing home Elizabeth Preston to make it a 3-1 game.

That's how things would end, and Swiatkowski earned the victory in the circle after going the distance and allowing one run on seven hits. Hemby was 2-for-3, and Fowler finished 2-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases for Austin College.

Austin College jumped on top 3-0 in the top of the first in game two after Preston scored on an RBI single by Fowler, followed by a run-scoring double from Hemby and a sacrifice fly by Swiatkowski. Sewanee got one run back in the second and pushed four across in the third to go on top 5-3, but an RBI double by Preston pulled the 'Roos to within one at 5-4 in the fourth. Austin College regained the lead for good in the fifth, as Alexus Johnson evened things up with an RBI and Preston had a two-run double. Fowler drove in Preston later in the inning, pushing it to an 8-5 game. Hannah King brought Hemby home with a sacrifice fly in the sixth, putting the 'Roos ahead 9-5.

Sewanee got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth, but that's as close as things would get. Johnson threw a complete game to earn the win, giving up seven runs, only one of which was earned, on 12 hits. Ali Tobar went 3-for-3 with two runs scored to lead the 'Roos at the plate, and Preston, Fowler, King, and Hemby each had two hits in the win.
