Four From 'Roo Softball Earn All-SCAC

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Four members of the Austin College softball team have earned honorable mention All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference accolades for their outstanding performances this season, the league office has announced. Lydsey Busch, Chyrsi Hemby, Elizabeth Preston, and Kaitlyn Barrett were each recognized for their strong 2023 campaigns.

Busch, a junior from Prescott Valley, Ariz., earned All-SCAC honors as a catcher for her season in which she batted. 333 with 20 runs scored and 10 more runs batted in, finishing the year with 34 hits including two doubles and a triple. She boasted a .382 on-base percentage and a .373 slugging percentage on the year.

Hemby, a sophomore second baseman from Bonham, batted .376 on the year to top the 'Roos, and finished third in the SCAC with 13 doubles. She also had a home run, 22 runs batted in, and scored 17 runs while also stealing eight bases. She ended the year with a .436 on-base percentage and a .565 slugging percentage.

Preston, a junior shortstop from Prairiland, batted .327 with a .345 on-base percentage and a .430 slugging precentage this season. She had seven doubles, two triples, and paced the 'Roos with 15 stolen bases while scoring 26 runs and driving in eight more. 

Barrett, a first-year catcher and first baseman from Franktown, Colo., finished second in the conference with seven home runs, while also driving in 27 runs and scoring 20 more. Barrett batted .314 on the season with a .363 on-base percentage and a slugging percentage of .562, ending the year with 33 hits including five doubles.
