SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team fell in a 4-0 hole and was unable to climb all the way back, coming up just short in a seventh inning comeback bid in a 5-4 loss to Trinity on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos finish the year with an overall record of 7-31.

The game was scoreless through the first two innings, with Trinity getting on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the third as Marina Delaluna brought two home with a single up the middle. Jessie Lloyd added a two-run double in the fourth to make it 4-0, with the 'Roos getting their first run of the game in the bottom half of the inning when Joli Kirkpatrick came home on a throwing error to make it 4-1.

Diamond Elizondo gave the Tigers a 5-1 lead with an RBI double in the fifth, but the 'Roos got that run back in the bottom of the inning when Hailie Swiatkowski came home on a sacrifice fly by Kirkpatrick. The 'Roos nearly came all the way back in the bottom of the seventh, as Carrie Johnson ripped a two-run base hit to cut it to 5-4, but that's where the rally would end.

AD Smith took the loss for Austin College, going the distance in her final collegiate game while giving up five runs on nine hits. Jordan Arce picked up the win for Trinity, while Brooke Porter earned the save for the Tigers. Johnson and Elizabeth Preston each had a pair of hits to pace Austin College offensively.
