Austin College Drops Two to Trinity

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team fell in both halves of its twinbill against visiting Trinity University on Saturday, falling 4-2 in game one and 12-3 in game two. The 'Roos are now 7-30 overall as they head into Sunday's season finale against the Tigers at noon.

After two scoreless innings to open the day, the Tigers got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the third of game one. Austin College fought back in the bottom of the inning to square things up, as Joli Kirkpatrick brought home a run with a sacrifice fly and Carrie Johnson added an RBI single. 

Trinity went back on top in the top of the fourth on a solo homer by Diamond Elizondo to make it 3-2, and the Tigers would add one more run in the fifth to make it a 4-2 game. Austin College was unable to generate any offense in the final innings, keeping that the final score. Hailie Swiatkowski took the loss for Austin College, surrendering three runs on seven hits in 3.0 innings of work, while Jordan Arce went the distance for Trinity to get the victory. Elizabeth Preston went 2-for-4 to pace Austin College.

Marina Delaluna tripled home a pair of runs in the first inning of game two as Trinity once again took an early advantage, and two more runs would come across in the second to make it a 4-0 game. The lead grew to 7-0 in the sixth before Kaitlyn Barrett launched her seventh home run of the year, this time a two-run shot to make it a 7-2 game. The Tigers would push the lead to 12-2 in the seventh, however, before Johnson knocked in one final run for the 'Roos in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 12-3 final score.

Johnson absorbed the loss for Austin College, giving up 11 runs - nine earned - on 14 hits in 6.0 innings, and Emery Boettcher picked up the win, giving up two runs on six hits in 5.1 innings. Preston, Johnson, and Barrett each had two hits for Austin College, and Abigail Miller went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead Trinity at the dish.
