SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team battled hard against visiting UT-Dallas, but the 'Roos came up short twice against the Comets with a 4-1 game one defeat and a tough 7-5 loss in extra innings in game two. The 'Roos are now 7-25 overall on the year while UTD is now 20-11.

In game one, things were scoreless until the top of the fourth when UT-Dallas plated four runs as Addison Caddell hit a 2-run single, followed by a 2-run double from Reese Cavazos. Those would be the only runs of the game for UTD, but the 'Roos were unable to mount a comeback in the late innings. Hailie Swiatkowski brought home Carrie Johnson with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1 in the sixth, and that's how things would end.

AD Smith went the distance in the circle for Austin College, giving up four runs on eight hits to take the loss. Emilie Hoelscher picked up the win for the Comets, throwing 4.0 shutout innings with seven strikeouts and two hits. Four different players had a hit each for the 'Roos, while Cavazos went 2-for-3 to pace UTD.

In game two, the Comets got on the board with a run in the top of the first and added another in the second. Brooklynn Cook cut the deficit in half with an RBI single in the third, and later that same inning Chyrsi Hemby ripped a run-scoring double to square things up at 2-2. Hemby added another RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to put Austin College on top 3-2, bringing home Elizabeth Preston after the junior shortstop tripled to left. The Comets evened things up in the sixth, and the game would remain tied heading into extra innings.

The Comets would take advantage of a pair of Austin College errors in the top of the eighth to score four runs and surge ahead 7-3, and a final rally by the 'Roos came up short after a 2-run homer by Kaitlyn Barrett cut it to 7-5 in the bottom of the inning. Allie Jeter absorbed the loss in relief, giving up four unearned runs and just one hit in 2.2 innings of work. Kassidie Rodriguez got the win for UTD, giving up three runs - two earned - on five hits in 4.0 innings of action. Hemby and Cook each had a pair of hits to pace the 'Roos at the dish.
